Community suicide prevention
There are many organizations working hard to increase awareness and lead the conversations about suicide prevention throughout Indiana.
But these groups cannot do this mission alone.
No matter where you live, you can become an advocate for awareness. Whether your community has one already or is working on a community suicide prevention plan, there is room for you. No matter your knowledge, strengths or skillset, there is a prevention strategy that could use your voice and expertise.
Remember, the more public conversations there are about suicide the less stigma will be associated with suicide. That, in turn, will make for a more open environment that allows those who need help to feel comfortable to seek help.
Get to know these local organizations and resources and be ready to give them to anyone close to you who is struggling. Several communities have begun to offer QPR Institute training to members of the community as well. QPR aims to educate and train gatekeepers – which can be anyone close to someone considering suicide - to recognize the warning signs of a crisis early.
Together, we can increase the conversations and decrease the stigma connected to suicide, which will save lives.
